Author James A. Martin was raised on a dairy farm in southern Michigan. He joined the Eaton County Sheriff Department in Charlotte Michigan in July 1974. In 1999 James A. Martin retired from the Sheriff Department to begin work as an Independent Contractor. James signed a contract with an American company. That contract took James Martin to East Timor where he worked with the United Nations for five years.
Upon completion of the East Timor mission James returned to the United States for a few months before signing a contract with a different American company. The following three years Martin served three tours of duty in Iraq. James is currently serving as an instructor teaching others to go to war and do what he has done in his past.
Author James A. Martin has captured his experiences first as a police officer, and later as an independent contractor in his Guns for Hire series. Written in honest, vivid detail, Shades of Gray: The Colors of Undercover details James A. Martin's life as an undercover police officer. After leaving undercover work, Martin became an independent contractor, which took him overseas and into some very precarious situations. Although the Guns for Hire books are written as fiction, they are based on Martin's life, using the fictional character Jesse. Guns for Hire: Code Name: White Buffalo describes the hair-raising experiences of a United Nations worker in Timor during East Timor's fight for independence. Guns for Hire, Red Zone Run: Mosul retells the dangerous role of a personal security officer stationed in Iraq.
