Biography of Author John V. White, Jr.

John V. White, Jr. was raised in good old Chicago by two great parents. Although they lived right in the heart of the ghetto, as folks say, they lived like they were rich kids. John V. White, Jr. says, "I was truly blessed with the greatest parents in the world. My parents had me wanting for nothing, despite the fact we were actually the poorest family in the neighborhood. Our family is rich in spirit; Lord rest my dad's soul, along with one of my sons. Lord willing, maybe one day I'll write a book about myself, and I'll tell you about my dad. My dad was the one that inspired me to write."

John V. White's mom worked three jobs--White grew up poor. John's parents brought him up in church, and they insisted on education. White played football and wrestled in two weight divisions in high school. He held two jobs during his senior year of school. White's dad also reminded him about responsibility. He told his four children that he would help them until they got out of high school, but after that (even if they went to college) they were going to get a job and help to pay bills if they continued to live at home.

John V. White, Jr. was part of the first graduating class in his grammar school. After graduating from grammar school, White was accepted at St. Ignatious College Prep. Unfortunately his family had to move, so White was unable to afford the tuition.

Currently John White loves getting in the backyard and firing up the grill. He is a dedicated family man. He remained devoted to his late wife, Minister Mattie Shaw, from the first day he laid eyes on her (Christmas Day 1985) until her death on November 16, 2008. John V. White, Jr. said, "I wrote a book about her because she definitely served her purpose in life. I felt in my heart she was someone special. I would be with her all the days of our lives. She was very inspirational to me."
