Author's Note
This month marks the release of the second edition of my novel, Choices in the Great Circle. It was exciting for me to approach the book again with a new perception gained from five more years of life and the experiences it brings. I'm happy with the changes I've made and look forward to sharing it with a new set of readers. I decided to give this new revision a new cover, using pictures from my recent trip to Scotland. Like many, I've always been intrigued by the stone circles in England and Scotland. They served as a backdrop for some scenes in the book and inspired the title. I've been fortunate enough to visit Stonehenge a few times, and this year made my first visit to stones I've been fascinated with for years: the Callanish Stones on the Isle of Lewis, Scotland. The new front and back cover images for Choices in the Great Circle were taken during a late, 10 pm summer sunset at the Callanish Stones.

Book Release: Choices in the Great Circle
Choices in the Great Circle by Lin Conklin
Set in the middle ages, this coming of age story follows the life and choices of a young girl surrounded by good and evil within the people, the community, and the choices facing her. The story weaves the universal truths of the Old Ways through the struggles between the Church and those still holding on to their pagan beliefs. These truths are as applicable today as they were a thousand years ago. Life's choices and our free will to make them remain pivotal points in each person's existence. The story is rich with wisdom about those choices, personal power, and life itself.

Article: Release from Our Past
I've always enjoyed fantasy novels, which is what prompted me to take lessons I'd recorded in my journals and weave them into a fantasy fiction, Choices in the Great Circle. As the title suggests, many aspects of the choices the characters make are addressed in the novel. For example, worrying about our past choices, ignoring the lessons they present, and choosing not to focus on the here and now is a topic widely discussed in Choices in the Great Circle. In the book, the main character's mother is offering this advice to her daughter, "The past is the past. It makes us who we are. Only we can choose what to do from this moment and this place forward. If you realize the power you have in making that choice and only that choice, because there is only now, then you will be free of the power the past has on you right now." As this passage indicates, dwelling on our past can lock us in patterns and we may allow ourselves to become lifelong victims of choices made years ago. When we give ourselves permission to make a new and different choice, the power of the past and old decisions no longer control what will happen in our future. In other words, if you believe you can change your circumstances, then your chances of doing so greatly increase. In addition, if you can let go of the judgments you make about your choices, the power they have over you diminishes even more.
